Himalayan Nature Resort
Location: Gorkha, Nepal

This resort was an attempt to revive the endangered Gurung settlement of Gorkha district. The design approach was to relive the vernacular architecture of the location and merely focused on low-cost design with prioritizing local materials and construction techniques.
Space division of this resort is done in a very specific manner that the crowded spaces are adjusted on the higher altitude and near the entrance with less crowded spaces dropping towards the low altitude area. By doing so, we were assured that the scenery of the site which is the most important factor would not be blocked or affected by our design in any possible way.

Stone being the locally available material is used for walls in some part of the buildings as a well-dressed stone wall would be quite expensive. So, for the replacement, we did brick wall and stone cladding for the rest of the walls. Stone slates used for roofing as it is the major element of the Gurung ghar. A scatter cottage rooms division creating an alley, an approach to reflect how Gurung used to reside on the top of the gorkha district.
As an attraction/addition to the resort, a fully traditional Gurung house to be constructed by the locals using their traditional methods is proposed functionally used an administration to the resort will showcase how the Gurung house were used to be like in back days.
